Top 5 Summer Favourites 2018

I have been MIA for awhile and the reason was simply – I was trying to get all the videos done before I head off to Paris.  Here comes a blog post that I want to basically sum up my Summer favourites.  I never knew when I should do this type of content.  If I do it in the midst of summer or in early summer, then I would have the query, “how do I know I would really love them throughout the season?  It hasn’t even started yet!” And if I do it like this – at the end of the season, the little voice in my brain goes, “why bother?  Everyone is interested in Autumn Winter stuff, this is a bit out-dated!”

Oh well, I will talk about them anyway because this can be your summer reference in 2019.  Or even better, if you are interested in these items and they are on sale for some reason, you can grab them for 2019 and save some money.

Balmain Logo Print T-Shirt

I got this in 2017 if I remember correctly.  I loved it but for some very strange reason, I didn’t wear it all that much in 2017. HOWEVER, during the early summer days this year, I was shopping my own wardrobe to explore different options and I found this T-shirt, I was ecstatic.  I put this much more to use this summer (like on average I wear it at least once a week) and I have to admit that the more I wear this, the more I love it.  It’s simple, it’s classic and it’s loose fitting.  The material used is a bit on the thick side but still very breathable.  It’s more of a structure fit and I love how it doesn’t stick to the body.  I simply love the 3 buttons (such an iconic detail from Balmain) on the left shoulder, if you wear your bag on the right side, it’s perfect!  It washes really well too and it definitely keeps its shape.  Price-wise, it’s below HK$2,000.  It’s not cheap, but if you compare it to some other logo printed tee ranging from HK$3,000 – HK$5,000 without any intricate details, I think this Balmain one is a great bargain and you could definitely wear this for a few years to come.  Mine is black with gold print, you can click here for details. Or if you are more fond of silver print, you can check out here as well.

Chloe Lauren Scalloped Espadrilles

You all should know by now that I really love these Chloe Espadrilles.  I first got them in Elephant Grey (in my humble opinion, it’s like a lavender grey) and then I love them so much so that I had to get the 2nd pair in Ochre (it’s tan colour like the one in the picture) while it was on sale.  I love how plain they are – no logos, no fuss!  There are so many of these espadrilles with big logo prints on them and this Chloe pair offers a nice change.  Also when I come to think about what I usually wear in the summer – a Tee with or without logo and a possible Monogram bag (will be discussed below), then I really don’t want my shoes to scream one more brand.  Sometimes too much is too much in my eyes, so it kinda explains why I love this pair of espadrilles so so much.  I have been wearing them non-stop this summer apart from the rainy days.  They are super comfortable from Day 1!  Hello!!  Do I need to shout it out again – they are INDEED COMFORTABLE and no break-in needed!!! Hurray!!!  I had said it on YouTube and I will say it again – these are way more comfortable than the Chanel ones that I got and I am mega happy that I have these in my life.  At first I was quite worried about the suede material getting dirty easily but when I look at them now, they still look pristine!  Mind you, I hadn’t really taken extra caution when I wore them, so they are not high maintenance in this sense.  I would recommend these Chloe Espadrilles a thousand times if I can and I KNOW they will still be my besties in summer 2019.  If you are interested in the colours that I got, you can check out here because they have both grey and tan. Or if you enjoy a pale pink option, take a look here and it might grab you.

Gucci Ophidia GG Supreme Small Shoulder Bag

Monogram print or shall I say vintage style was making a comeback earlier this year – look at this Gucci Ophidia collection and also the Saddle Bag from Dior.  I am all for comebacks because we get to appreciate the vintage style in a new modern way.  I am usually not a monogram person, but I don’t resist/ dislike them.  When it comes in the right style, I will be head over heels over it, just like this Gucci Ophidia!  It was LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!  To be honest, it’s just a monogram print in a rectangular shape, what’s so special about it?  It even looks a bit grandma!  Don’t get me wrong, I totally agree!  But something about the bag that actually reminds me of the old times, something about this bag screams classy, something about this bag speaks to me!  I love the fact that it’s not leather (I don’t need every bag to be in leather) and how light it is.  And because it’s scratch-free, so it’s a super low maintenance bag unless you spill something on it.  I love how versatile it is, it definitely goes well with a work look and it instantly bring the outfit to a classy level with a hint of vintage touch, and it also goes really well with my usual causal summer outfit!  So big love for this!  I include this in my summer favourites doesn’t mean that it’s only applicable for summer, it also goes with winter outfits.  It’s just that I had been excessively using it in the summertime, that’s all.  I have done a YouTube video reviewing this bag before, you can check it out here.  I am not sure if this is still in stock in store, if not, you can always check it out online here.

The Victoria Cotton-Jersey T-shirt

I hadn’t been a white top or white anything person but I was on the white tee mission this past summer.  A good basic never goes out of style.  My requirements for this particular white tee were very “detailed”.  I was so fussy that I went to every store and searched all over the internet for this “imaginary white tee”.  I needed it to be a few things: 1. not flimsy and not transparent (you know how some of them are so thin to the point that I would regard it as “see-through” not white tee); 2. loose fitting; 3. round neck; 4. not too short and 5. wash well and don’t loose shape.  AND, this Victoria Tee checked everyone of the boxes!  Yay!!  Again, after wearing the first one a few times, I decided to get 2 more as back ups.  At the end of the day, a good basic sounds easy to locate, but I can guarantee you that it’s like finding a needle in a haystack.  This definitely washes really well, it doesn’t loose the shape.  I am so happy that I completed the mission and I don’t need to worry about anything like that in 2019 and going forward.  I got mine from here.

Astrid & Miyu Wishbone Ear Cuff in Gold

Technically, this should be my all time favourite but I tend to wear it more towards the end of the summer when I felt like I needed a bit of an edgy boost.  The truth is that summer is unbearable for me and I can’t be bothered to fuss around too many rings or necklaces because they tend to really stick to my skin and make me even hotter (my tolerance is super low during summer).  So the next best option is this ear cuff!  It’s barely there but it does the job of accessorizing!  It’s comfortable when you don’t try to clip it too tight and it’s secure.  After a good few weeks’ usage, I still manage not to loose it.  Honestly I got quite a few different ear cuffs from Astrid & Miyu but my current favourite is this gold one.  It just adds that dainty spice that I needed for a super plain outfit.  You can check it out from here and if you are not a fan of gold, they do come in other colours too!

Well, I hope that you all enjoy reading this summer round-up.  It’s quite fun for me to do!  It’s very usual for me to share my monthly favourites on YouTube but it’s not often that I get to share what I love here on the blog.  So, I think it’s nice to follow up with a blog post like this when the season ends on what’s really worth the investment.  Also I do try to take away the trending pieces in these favourites recap posts, because what makes it to trend this year, doesn’t mean that they would make it next year.  So when I pick out the items, my ideas are: A. I had worn them a lot this summer and the more I worn them, the more I loved them; and B. I would be more than happy to wear them again next year and the year after next.  So, I guess I could have called them the summer staples *laughs*.  Anyway, you get the idea and hope this is somewhat useful to you.
