My Pick Me Up Songs x 2

I think everyone has a pick me up song – something that you listen to when you feel a bit deflated.  Today I decide to share mine.  Here comes the first one – Masterpiece by Jessie J.

Masterpiece by Jessie J

Lyrics

So much pressure
Why so loud?
If you don’t like my sound
You can turn it downI got a road
And I walk it aloneUphill battle
I look good when I climb
I’m ferocious, precocious
I get braggadociousI’m not gonna stop
I like the view from the top (yeah)

You talk that blah blah, that la la, that rah rah sh*t
And I’m so done, I’m so over it
Sometimes I mess up, I f*$% up, I hit and miss
But I’m OK, I’m cool with it

I still fall on my face sometimes
And I can’t colour inside the lines
‘Cause I’m perfectly incomplete
I’m still working on my masterpiece
And I, I wanna hang with the greats
Got a way to go, but it’s worth the wait
No, you haven’t seen the best of me
I’m still working on my masterpiece

Oh, oh
Oh, ah
Oh, oh
Oh, ah

Those who mind don’t matter
Those who matter, don’t mind
If you don’t catch what I’m throwing
Then I’ll leave you behind

Gone in a flash
And I ain’t living like that

They talk that blah blah, that la la, that rah rah sh*t
Roll with the punches, and take the hits
Sometimes I mess up, I f*$% up, I swing and miss
But it’s OK, I’m cool with it

I still fall on my face sometimes
And I can’t colour inside the lines
‘Cause I’m perfectly incomplete
I’m still working on my masterpiece
And I, I wanna hang with the greats
Got a way to go, but it’s worth the wait
No, you haven’t seen the best of me
I’m still working on my masterpiece

Oh, oh
Oh, ah
Oh, oh
Oh, ah

I still fall on my face sometimes
And I can’t colour inside the lines
‘Cause I’m perfectly incomplete
I’m still working on my masterpiece
Masterpiece, masterpiece (yeah)

I still fall on my face sometimes (still fall)
And I can’t colour inside the lines (inside the lines)
‘Cause I’m perfectly incomplete (perfectly incomplete)
I’m still working on my masterpiece (on my masterpiece)
And I, I wanna hang with the greats (oh, with the greats)
Got a way to go, but it’s worth the wait, no (wait, no)
You haven’t seen the best of me (b-b-best of me)
I’m still working on my masterpiece (I’m still working on my masterpiece)

Oh, oh (yeah)
Oh, ah (hey)
Oh, oh (still working on, still working on)
Oh, ah (still working on my masterpiece)

One of the main reasons that I love Jessie J is the fact that she can sing live.  Not many people can sing live and she is definitely one of those people who can make a live show sound better than iTune.  And whenever I see her singing live, her passion comes through tremendously in her voice and facial expression and that touches me deeply.  Not many people is determined to chase what they are passionate about, she is one of the few who has true talent in what she does and she is determined to follow her dream.
Right, enough with my admiration for Jessie J.  What makes a genuine good song to me is the lyrics.  Yes for me, the lyrics come before the tune.  If the lyrics speak to me, then I am 99% sure I will love the song.  I have been loving “Masterpiece” for a good few months now.  I think I did come across it a year or so ago, but I didn’t pay too much attention.  I think my first real encounter with the song was probably earlier in the year, when I was feeling tired, not motivated and I was constantly stressing myself out by different things.  Then one night, I was sitting browsing YouTube as usual and I came across the song, I was like given this “Ah Ha” moment.  I fell totally in love, I think mainly because the lyrics speaks to me in a way of “it’s alright to make mistake, the most important thing is to learn and keep climbing.  This is not the end, with patience and hard work, my masterpiece will be born.”  Something like that, each time I hear it, I have to say, it empowers me.  I hope to share this with you, just in case you need a little pick me up too.
Another one is from a Canadian band called Nickelback.  I have been in love with the band for years but I can’t say I love every song (I am very picky when it comes to music – esp. the lyrics).  There are a good few which are my favs and I will share them another time.  Today I want to share with you the song that would get my butt up and start working – What Are You Waiting For by Nickelback.

What Are You Waiting For by Nickelback

Lyrics

What are you waiting for?
What are you waiting for?

Are you waiting on a lightning strike?
Are you waiting for the perfect night?
Are you waiting ’til the time is right?
What are you waiting for?
Don’t you wanna learn to deal with fear?
Don’t you wanna take the wheel and steer?
Don’t you wait another minute here?
What are you waiting for?

What are you waiting for?

You gotta go and reach for the top
Believe in every dream that you got
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?
You know you gotta give it your all
And don’t you be afraid if you fall
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?

Are you waiting for the right excuse?
Are you waiting for a sign to choose?
While you’re waiting it’s the time you lose
What are you waiting for?
Don’t you wanna spread your wings and fly?
Don’t you really wanna live your life?
Don’t you wanna love before you die?
What are you waiting for?

What are you waiting for?

You gotta go and reach for the top
Believe in every dream that you got
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?
You know you gotta give it your all
And don’t you be afraid if you fall
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?

[2x]
Tell me what you’re waiting for
Show me what you’re aiming for
Whatcha going to save it for?
So whatcha really waiting for?

Everybody’s gonna make mistakes
But everybody’s got a choice to make
Everybody needs a leap of faith
When are you taking yours?

What are you waiting for?

You gotta go and reach for the top
Believe in every dream that you got
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?
You know you gotta give it your all
And don’t you be afraid if you fall
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?

You gotta go and reach for the top
What are you, what are you waiting for?
Believe in every dream that you got
What are you, what are you waiting for?
You know you gotta give it your all
What are you, what are you waiting for?
You’re only living once so tell me
What are you, what are you waiting for?

What are you, what are you?
What are you, what are you waiting for?
What are you, what are you?
What are you, what are you waiting for?

Another band who can sing live.  Don’t we all sometime make excuse for not making things happen?  Don’t we all sometime postpone the stuff that we should be doing?  Don’t we all sometime say “let’s wait and see”?  I don’t know about you, but I am definitely guilty sometimes.  I tend to talk myself out of some of the things that I should do, my little devil always tell me, “well just wait and see…” or “now is not a good time…”  Of course, when we look at life decisions (ANY decisions), we need to strive a sensible balance between “the external factors” and the “internal factors”.  I am not saying that we should all be doing everything without planning, without thinking, without assessing the situation.  But you know, there are those times that deep down, we know we want to do that certain thing, we know that we can make that certain thing work, but we keep delaying it because we are not sure of the outcome and FEAR somehow takes the steering wheel and drive us away from turning that desire into reality.  Yes, I am sure you know what I mean.  I am sure we are all guilty of it at some point in our lives.  I guess that’s why I love this song because whenever I listen to it, I am like, “hell yea!  What am I waiting for ACTUALLY?”  After 10 times of repeating the song, I would start putting down my ideas on paper and trying to find a way to make it come true.  Good eh.

I don’t usually share music on my blog, but I guess it’s good to throw in surprises from time to time to keep things fresh.  I hope this little blog post would help you somehow and especially when those dark moments kick in and you are not that sure of yourself. Don’t worry, we have all been there.  Wish you clarity with your journey!
