If you have followed me for awhile, I guess you must have followed me on some of the social media platforms. I have been diligently thinking how I could separate different platforms for years but couldn’t come up with any answers. When it turned 2017, I was quiet for awhile recovering from all the vlogmas videos and my travel. Then it dawned on me that each of the social media offers its own uniqueness, and I should follow what their strengths are. So today, I want to give you an overview of what to expect on the different social media platforms that I am on, so you can choose to follow according to what you want to see and you won’t be too bored if you decide to follow me on a few of them.
YouTube: It still remains as one of my most active platforms in the sense that you will get to see bundles of reviews, gigantic hauls, vlogs (record of my life in a lengthy kinda way) and any travel related episodes. I still keep the style causal yet informative because that’s the way that I am most comfortable with. I will keep the schedule of the videos to every Tuesday and Thursday at 9.30am Hong Kong time, so it’s easier for you to stay tuned (provided YouTube will unsubscribe my followers out of the blue). I don’t intend to change the format drastically at the moment but all I can assure you that I will let my inspiration flow when I am creating content for you, of course I always take into consideration of what your comments are and adjust accordingly, so if any particular topic interests you, feel free to let me know as you always do.
Blog: I took a long time to think about my blog and I am not kidding when I said I took a long time! After quite some time of trying to figure it out and at the same time, I wanted to refresh it a bit. I came to terms with more fashion content, single product swatches and reviews, motivational pieces and maybe my learnings for all these years or so. I know not many people love reading, but writing is the one thing that gives me tremendous amount of peace and is close to my heart. This is the platform whereby I decided to step out of my comfort zone and commit to something that I have a passion for, so I am not going to let it slip. I will keep writing here, it’s just that I want to expand the fields to bring in more excitement for all of you. As much as I want to keep it fun, but I also want to bring value to your life in some ways. I think the majority of the blog posts here will still be bilingual, however, some pieces might only be in English (like this one), this totally depends on which language flows better in my brain at the point of writing *winks*.
Facebook: A platform that has changed so much through the years – from friends engaging with each other to now “what’s the hottest topic in town”. Out of all the functions of Facebook, I really like the video and the live chat function. I guess if I enjoy them, I should use them. So for Facebook, I will do more of mini video swatches and reviews and I will do a lot of live chat with you all. I have been trying the new approach for the past week or so and yes I do see you enjoy watching something/ chatting to me on a very light hearted level. So let’s keep to this. Don’t get me wrong, I am sure you will see a picture here and a picture there from time to time, but I don’t think you will be overdosed with pictures on here. If you enjoy seeing pictures, move onto to the next one.
Instagram: I have two Instagram accounts: iamhakme and hakmebeauty. iamhakme is for my personal update and hakmebeauty is for the store product update. I am not going to talk about the hakmebeauty Instagram because it’s very explicit that you will find a lot of my store updates there, so I don’t need to explain further. For my personal iamhakme Instagram, you will see a lot of update in picture form. At the end of the day, Instagram is famous for brilliant photos though it tries to be something else recently, I still think I go on Instagram everyday to look at pretty photos, so I will keep it to that. Occasionally you will see a mini video somewhere but I doubt if there would be a lot of mini videos whereby I could squeeze down to less than 1 min *laughs*. For Instagram story, all I can say is that I might use it from time to time, but I won’t be a regular.
Snapchat [iamhakme]: One of the newer platforms which I find fun and real. I enjoy the not-so-much-editing side of it and I love its filters (perfect for a no-makeup-day). One of the reasons that I am so fond of this platform is that it suits me really well, I like anything that’s a true representation of anything. Yes of course all those edited stuff are pretty to the eyes, but to me, they lack something, they lack the reality in them. How many of us can be all perfect perfect all the time? Nah. So Snapchat kicks that missing reality back in, it shows the fun side of people and it definitely shows the non-edited version of them. Therefore, I am rolling with this. Expect to see my daily dose of my non perfect life and the non perfect me on Snapchat! I am me at the end of the day, and I can only be the best version of me. Why should I hide right?
Pinterest [iamhakme]: Pinterest works kinda like a vision board or collection of inspiration. I admit that I am not insanely active on Pinterest but I do go on once a week. I love looking at others’ inspirations and collect my own. So if you follow me on Pinterest, it’s simple, it’s a collage of what I love in different categories.
Twitter [iamhakme]: I can’t say Twitter is really popular in Hong Kong. I guess it’s because its mostly word-based. I do go on from time to time to check out what’s up with my favourite people and brands. I do twit my thoughts from time to time (in English mostly), but I am only active maybe once a week. I enjoy their voting function though, I think it’s such a brilliant idea. But it’s sad that I can’t use the voting function effectively because I never have a lot of people following me – so what’s the point of even creating a poll, it won’t have a true representation anyway *laughs*.
Weibo [黑咪Jess]: This is mainly for my followers who are working or based in Mainland China. I have this because I understand that it’s quite difficult for them to get on Facebook or other platforms in China, so in order to stay in touch, I got this up and running. This tends to feed in whatever my Facebook and Instagram are showing.
Right, hopefully with this new approach, you won’t be bored if you decide to follow me on a few of the social media platforms, and I won’t be bored to death feeling like I am constantly repeating myself. Someone did ask me on FB live chat, “oh wouldn’t this segregation creates a lot of work for you?” Yes it does. But I tend to be one of those people who always have more plates than I can chew anyway. If this segregation helps me to enjoy each platform going forward and see the value in each platform, then it won’t feel much like work anyway. No worry, thanks for the love and care, I think I will survive as always. Let’s give this a go and revisit later to see how everyone is liking the new approach. Yea, you should know me by now that I REALLY can’t sit still, very often, before I suffocate myself with boredom, I need to shake things up to give things new meaning and perspective!
Oh and this must be my first blog post in 2017! I guess it’s never too late to say Happy New Year of 2017 and I wish all of you the best in everything that you do! Love you lots as always!!
